The image of a nerdy type with Star Wars posters all over their bedroom walls was in most Hollywood films and anyone with a computer was laughed out of town. It was the gadget lovers who had the last laugh though as now anyone who is anyone wants to be seen with the latest gizmo under their arm. The explosion in popularity of gadgets such as the Ipod and Nintendo Wii has lead to people of all interests investing more in hi-tech products than ever before. The revolution in gadgets doesn’t look set to end any time soon, with the latest computer hardware and mp3 players being released almost daily. They are slowly invading our work lives too with flash drives and usb gizmos becoming an ever larger part of office life. Now that gadgets have left their underground status and joined the mainstream they are becoming increasingly popular promotional gifts. More and more large companies are finding success by putting their logo on desktop gadgets and using them to give to clients and staff. Compared to the usual pens and mugs, being given promotional gadgets as an incentive or reward is pretty cool, and that effect can rub off on a company and improve their image.
