Instead you are required to order a DVD from the official map supplier for Honda who will then send you a DVD in the post which contains the entire American mapping software database. This then needs to be inserted into the disc drive of the dashboard GPS for the install to be managed. This is how you do in five very simple steps.

The Honda Navigation System Update Process

Visit the official Honda Navigation Store and choose your Accord's model year from the drop-down boxes on the left hand side menu.
You will now be presented with the new DVD version that you need to purchase and update with – typically most Accord models will be compatible with the 2012 White DVD Map Update v4.A2 disc version.
Click on the add to cart button and fill in your name and address details. Expect to pay between $140 and $200 US Dollars depending on what additional options you choose to pick with the DVD.
Once the new Honda Accord GPS disc arrives in the post you will need to start the Accord's engine and turn on the GPS system – do not turn it off during the install process!
Eject the existing DVD and insert the new one. You will be prompted to enter in your serial number which is on the packaging so make sure you keep this safe.
The install process should take no longer than 45 minutes to complete – at which point you are then ready to drive again with all the updated highways and roads that have changed since your last GPS update.

Just to confirm, you should never turn off the Accord or the GPS whilst this is happening as this can corrupt the software install and damage the navigation system – at which point you might need to speak to a Honda ratified mechanic or engineer in order to fix the problem.
